asking for help

Friday, February 19, 2010

Is that too tough to do? Does the thought of asking others for help make you cringe? Does it make you nervous? I don’t know. I just wasn’t really raised to ask for help. I pride myself on being a strong, independent woman who can take care of herself (and most everybody else, if given half a chance). It really takes a lot to get to the point of asking for help, but why should it be like that? What’s so wrong about having a constant flow of giving and receiving? Of asking for help and of giving help? Shouldn’t those be equal? Couldn’t those be balanced? So I’m trying something new. I love keeping this blog. I’ve done it for four years now, and I’d love to expand my blog and website, so I’m asking you for help today. If you like (hopefully really like) reading my blog and appreciate my readings and recipes and events, are you willing to send along my website link to all of your friends? One of my intentions for my life is to be able to help as many people as possible, and potentially I’m able to do that through my website. Another of my intentions is to learn how to ASK for what I want, so I’m walking out to the end of that limb and asking if you would be willing to help me today. It just takes a few minutes, but it would mean the world to me.

Seriously, it’s not about my website and certainly not about my blog - I think it goes deeper than that, and this is what I’m thinking. If we are immersed in our old ways of doing (or not doing) things, we are now being called to locomote in new ways. For me, those new ways is a deeper interconnectedness with the rest of humanity - not so much a “I’ll help you, but I’m fine” kind of stance that just ends up leaving me lonely and disconnected. No - no more, as the Winnebago Man says (if you don’t know, don’t ask smile ). Enough! So here I join the human race for this grand experiment in connectedness. While I’m here, I’ll also let you know I’m writing two different books - one about my mom and I called “Devotion” and another one that’s a spiritual book called “The Next Step.” If you know any agents or publishers and can put in a good word for me - FABULOUS!!! If you have a radio show or know of someone who does, let them know I LOVE doing radio! How about a spa? I’d love to present and do readings there. If you’d like me to come to your city and are willing to act as host, also let me know! See? I guess it’s not THAT bad asking for help. While we’re on the subject, is there anything YOU’D like help with today? Is there someone you can ASK for help? Are you willing to walk out on that limb with me and ask? Go ahead - I don’t want to be standing here all alone!

It’s a new thing, yes, it is, but I’m excited for the possibilities. I can feel the energy shifting in powerful ways. I’ll keep you updated, let you know what comes of all of this. I’m sure great things - I’m that eternal optimist for sure. In the end it’s always all right. If it isn’t all right - it isn’t the end. I can’t remember who said that - probably that genius, Anonymous. Whoever it was, they got it right. So I sign off, listening to Jacqueline du Pre, full of salmon chowder and feeling very very peaceful. Have a great weekend, everybody!
