I believe in miracles. I have always believed in miracles. When I was younger, it was just a given, without much need for proof, but as I get older, I believe mainly because I SEE them almost every single day. Sometimes I have to look really closely in order to see them, because they’re very teeny miracles, like the grass getting green, or a touch of a blue sky on a cloudy day. “Oh - THOSE kind of miracles,” you may be saying, but I say that you start with the small things and work your way up to the really big ones. By allowing and seeing, you create the space for those miracles to come to you. They’re all around, you see, you maybe just can’t see them yet. But you will - I promise.
I was having a tough day a few weeks ago. It was cold, I was carrying a lot into the school and was having a tough time not dropping anything. I said, “If there is a god, and if this is all real, I want someone to be standing there right at the door and open it as I walk through.” In the 15 years I’ve had kids at this school, that has never happened. But I do the “Jason and the Fleece” thing a lot, but only if it’s REALLY necessary for the Universe to prove its Divine Existence to me. As I approached the school, a door was magically opened by a blonde woman who happened to just be standing inside the door. You may say this is a coincidence, but to have someone standing there, at that exact moment, at that exact door, at that exact time on that exact day - well, the odds of that happening are pretty small. It meant something to me. Maybe that’s the true definition of miracle. Something that affirms some wish you’ve made or dream you’ve had. Something that unfolds exactly when you were thinking about it. Some gift or understanding that falls right in front of your path so you just CAN’T miss it.
I hear people say that there are no such thing as miracles, then they go on to explain to me all the reasons why these things are happening, but I say to them, “You have absolutely no idea what I’ve seen, what I’ve experienced, what I know,” because if they DID, then they’d never say that to me, or maybe they would, because they know what they know, in spite of what anyone else thinks or knows. There are those people in the world. But for me, I feel sorry for them, I really do, not to have miracles in their lives, no magic, nothing greater than what their limited minds can conceive or their human logic prove. Do we really think we’re the main attraction here? Us in our little dirt bodies? I don’t think so. I respect that you may think so, but I offer you another glimpse into a greater reality - the reality that whispers into your ear, “there are no limits. Ask for what you need, then believe.”
So I say this to all of you right now: I am asking for a miracle. Would you care to join me in this experiment, if you will? My son’s amazing 4th grade teacher may not be able to loop with the kids up to 5th grade next year. I asked the principal what we need to make that happen. Here’s what we need: either 8 more children to come into the 4th grade before the school year ends, or one of the 5th grade teachers to transfer out. I’m intending one of those two things to happen (heck, maybe BOTH could happen - I don’t know). I’m consciously and actively seeking a miracle, a BIG miracle, because I believe in miracles. This isn’t an everyday miracle - this would be one of the bigger miracles, but I believe. I really do. If you’re interested in helping out with this miracle making, join me. State your intention to the Universe, pray, meditate on it, whatever you do. Say, “I intend 8 more 4th graders to come to Susie’s son’s class before this school year is out,” or “I intend one of the 5th grade teachers at Susie’s son’s grade school to state their intention (before the school year is out) to transfer out,” and we’ll all work our magic and see what happens. Of course it might not happen - I accept that. But we can always try, can’t we? What would it mean if it DID happen? Well, it would be pretty magical, and stretch our minds to greater possibilities, for one thing. It could give us a gentle lesson that we CAN make things happen in this world - we don’t have to just let things slide by us. We can AFFECT our lives. We can be miracle makers, whether they’re monumental, or everyday. I believe - do you?
